This review applies to our cabin only. We understand that they are all very different, and others may be fine. Ours was the furthest from the river, close to a half hour drive. This was not apparent from the website though perhaps a person familiar with area could have figured it out. The cabin was accessible only via an extremely rough road. The website warned those with expensive cars that the finish might get dinged. We don't care about dings but do care about damage to the car, which was a concern. We were worried about being stuck In there and almost were once- we had real trouble getting in and out. Perhaps this cabin would work with an SUV. The cabin itself was overpriced for what it was- no wifi or phone and not particularly well-made. There were no closets to hang your clothes, few dressers and not even enough room in the bedroom for an open suitcase so we had to use the upstairs loft for our stuff. Although the cabin is for four people, the two of us felt cramped.
Finished checking in at 8:15, weren't shuttled to the put-in point until 9:15, in the water by ~9:30. Arrived at put-out point by 12:25 with no one in sight. We call (as instructed to do so) & were told someone would be there within 15 minutes max. School bus finally showed up at 1:00; and we were told that they'd need to fill the entire bus & canoe trailer before taking us back. Wait around for another ~30 minutes before they realize that the new crowd arriving has several personal canoes/kayaks that need to come back. After another 15 minutes unloading B.R.O. canoes & loading the personal ones, they depart and we're finally back at Buffalo River Outfitters by 2:00.
All in all, we love the area, but waiting around a total of 2.5 hours for 3 hours of floating was a bummer. We may come back, but not before looking at some of the other options in the area.
Great venue, friendly staff, reasonable canoe rentals, but we were at the mercy of their transportation.
My husband and I just did the 10 mile float today. The staff were amazing and very helpful. The shuttle takes you right to your drop off location and is waiting for you at the pick up location. Very laid back and relaxing atmosphere. Well worth the 8 hour trip to get here!! Very pleased! We will definitely be back!
Went during the low season and was properly warned and advised on how to have the maximum fun regardless. The entire crew were warm, friendly, and happy to help. The shuttle arrived perfectly on time even after we changed the time on them. Could not have enjoyed this experience any more than I did! Will absolutely be coming back again. (Had a bonus of being 1 of only 6 boats we saw on water over 3 full days)
Very helpful and friendly staff!! Lots of smiles!! Just used them to rent one canoe and carry 3 of our kayaks for an overnight float. Great Experience! Would recommend these guys to anyone! Used them 10 years ago also for the same trip!! Tell the girls that the bandana looks good on the elk!
